Privacy Policy for Maktaba ​

This Privacy Policy describes how Maktaba ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our e-book library management application.

1. Information We Collect ​

Maktaba is primarily a local, file-based application. Depending on how you configure and use the App, the following may apply:

  • Local file data: The App scans, reads, moves, copies, and edits e-book files and their metadata on folders and drives that you explicitly select. This data stays on your device unless you enable a sync feature.
  • Cloud sync data (optional): If you enable Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, an S3-compatible provider, or another third-party cloud storage integration, the App will request authentication tokens and access permissions from that provider solely to synchronize files you choose to sync. We do not independently collect, view, or store the content of your files on our own servers.
  • Diagnostic data (optional): If crash reports, logs, or usage analytics are enabled, limited technical information (e.g., app version, OS, error traces) may be collected to help with troubleshooting.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, payment details, or government identifiers through the App.

2. How Information Is Used ​

Any information collected is used solely to:

  • Provide the core functionality of the App (scanning, organizing, and syncing e-book files);
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues, if diagnostics are enabled;
  • Improve the App's features and stability.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services ​

Where you connect third-party services (such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or an S3-compatible storage provider), your use of those services is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms. We are not responsible for the data practices, security, or availability of third-party services, and authentication with those services is handled directly between your device and the provider — we do not store your third-party account credentials.

4. Data Storage and Security ​

The App is designed so that your e-book library data remains under your control on your own device and/or your own cloud storage account. While we take reasonable care in how the App is built, we make no guarantee that the App is free of defects, security vulnerabilities, or data-handling errors, and you use the App's storage and sync features at your own risk.

5. No Liability for Data Loss or Corruption ​

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim any and all responsibility or liability for:

  • Loss, corruption, duplication, or deletion of files, e-books, metadata, or libraries resulting from use of the App;
  • Unauthorized access to your files or cloud accounts arising from your own device, network, or account security practices;
  • Any interruption, error, or failure in third-party services (including Google Drive, OneDrive, and S3-compatible providers) that the App connects to.

You are solely responsible for maintaining independent backups of any data you value before using the App to scan, move, copy, edit, or sync it.

6. Children's Privacy ​

The App is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy ​

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
