Reading Analytics

Maktaba quietly tracks how much time you actually spend reading, then turns that into a report you can check any time. Open it from the sidebar's footer — click the chart icon next to Settings.

Library summary

At the top of the Analytics page, a row of stat cards gives you an at-a-glance count of your whole library: total books, total library size on disk, and how many distinct Authors, Series, Tags, and Collections you have — plus Periodicals and Issues if that feature is turned on for this library. Below that, two rows of badges break your books down by format (EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT) and by reading status (Unread, Reading, Finished), so you can see the shape of your library at a glance.

How reading time is tracked

While a book is open in the reader and its window is visible, Maktaba keeps a running tally of the time spent on it. You don't need to start or stop anything — just read, and it's recorded automatically in the background. Nothing is sent anywhere; it stays in your library alongside everything else.

What the report shows

  • Total time read, Currently reading, Unread, and Finished — a quick summary across your whole library, with an estimate of how much time is left on the books you're partway through.
  • Most active day and most active time — the day of the week and hour of the day you read the most overall.
  • Reading time — a bar chart of how much you read, switchable between Daily (the last 30 days), Weekly (the last 12 weeks), and Monthly (the last 12 months). Hover any bar to see the exact amount for that period.
  • By day of week and By time of day — two more bar charts showing which days and which hours you tend to read at, with your most active day/hour highlighted.
  • By book — a table of every book you're reading or have finished, with its progress, time read so far, and an estimated time remaining. Books you haven't started yet aren't listed here since there's nothing to show for them.

About the time estimates

Maktaba doesn't know how long a book "should" take — instead, once you've read enough of a book to know your pace on it, it estimates the total from your own reading speed so far. Until a book has enough of its own data, Maktaba falls back to your average pace across the rest of your library. These estimates get more accurate the more you read, and will naturally shift as your pace does.
